Are you Getting enough Vitamin C to Protect your body from illness and disease?

One of the most important substances in the achievement and preservation of optimum health, as well as the prevention and treatment of disease, is vitamin C.

To appreciate why an optimum daily intake of this nutrient is so essential in the battle against infectious disease and well-being in general, we must remember that our bodies do not make vitamin C.

The question becomes what amount of vitamin C is needed to put a person in the best of health and give them the immune protection against infectious diseases of all kinds, as well as the various degenerative diseases that are now so common.

To help you understand the truth of "what amount," here is what experts in the field of nutrition have to say:

"In order to answer this, we must first understand the concept of Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) as formulated by the Food and Nutrition Board.

"Most people interpret RDA for any particular nutrient (in this case vitamin C) as being that specific dosage that leads to the best health for all people. That is, ‘if I take the RDA of vitamin C every day of my life, I will more than likely achieve the best health that can possibly be gained by the intake of this nutrient.’

"This interpretation is quite false!

"The RDA is only the estimated amount that, for most people, will prevent scurvy or death caused by vitamin C deficiency.

"The board's recommendations were adopted to indicate to the general American public the amount of vitamin C needed [45 mg] in order to avoid scurvy.

"The problem with the board’s recommendations is that the medical profession took hold of them and created a misconception generally accepted by many physicians. This being:

"If there are no signs or symptoms of scurvy, we must assume that there is no deficiency of vitamin C. Therefore no need to take supplements of this vitamin.

"But scurvy is not just a symptom of lack [of vitamin C], but a final collapse, leading to death, via a breakdown and disintegration of our bodies.

"There is a large area, including colds, infections, flu and degenerative diseases that exists between the total blackness of scurvy and death, and the pure white of optimum health and resistance to disease.

"No longer can we be satisfied with the misconception that if we do not have scurvy, we do not need any additional amounts of vitamin C in order to achieve optimum health and resistance to disease."

Eight double blind studies have been done using between 200 mg/day and 2,000 mg/day, which have shown an average 44% reduction in illness, thus the RDA recommendation of 45 mg of vitamin C is far too low to provide the protection needed today.

What Are the Possible Statin Drug Side Effects?

Concern about high cholesterol levels has resulted in millions of people being prescribed one or more of a group of drugs called "statin" drugs, such as Lipitor, Zocor, etc., to lower their cholesterol levels.

Statin drugs chemically interfere with the normal operating basis of the body and this often results in serious side effects! Here are a few:

1)  Statin drugs are known to cause muscle pains and inflammation around the muscle cells.

2) People using statin drugs may experience muscle weakness and fatigue. In fact, statin drugs have been shown to break down muscle tissue which can be fatal if not caught soon enough.

3) Studies have also shown that patients placed on statins may have experienced a measurable decrease in cognitive function (mental awareness and judgment) after only six months.

4) Statin drugs have also been shown to sometimes cause nerve damage (neuropathy).

The FDA requires that the pharmaceutical companies tell you about any possible side effects that a medication may cause.  The pharmaceutical companies do this by providing you a booklet which has all this information when you get your prescription.

When referring to neuropathy, or any of the many terms used to refer to the various forms of this condition (see below), the booklet may read something like, "..possible numbing and tingling" or "...pins and needles, paresthesia."

Please review your prescription information and see whether it may be a cause and/or contributing factor to your neuropathy.

NEWLY UPDATED LIST OF CHOLESTEROL LOWERING DRUGS (STATIN DRUGS) MAY CAUSE NEUROPATHY AS A SIDE EFFECT:

Advicor, Altocor, Atorvastatin, Altoprev, Atorvastatin, Baycol, Caduet, Cerivastatin, Crestor, Fluvastatin, Lescol, Lescol XL, Lipex, Lipitor, Lipobay, Lopid, Lovastatin, Mevacor, Pravachol, Pravastatin, Pravigard Pac, Rosuvastatin, Simvastatin, Vytorin, Zocor.

These are the various terms for neuropathy that are found in the side effects listed for these statin drugs:

paresthesiaan unusual or unexplained tingling, pricking, or burning sensation on the skin.

neuritisinflammation of a nerve, accompanied by pain, loss of reflexes, and muscle shrinkage.

neuralgiaan intermittent and often severe pain in a part of the body along the path of a nerve, especially when there is no physical change in the nerve itself.

vertigoa condition in which somebody feels a sensation of whirling or tilting that causes a loss of balance.

dysesthesia: a condition in which light physical contact of the skin causes pain; abnormal sensations on the skin that can include burning, prickling, numbness, or pain.

hypoesthesia: an unusually reduced sensitivity to touch; numbness.  Also called hypesthesia.

hypalgesia: reduced sensitivity to pain.  Also called hypoalgesia.

hyperalgesia: increased sensitivity to pain or enhanced intensity of pain sensation; excessive sensitiveness to pain.

hyperesthesia: a heightened sensitivity of a part of the body such as the skin, or of any of the senses.

NOTE: If you're taking any of the above medications, you need to speak to your doctor about getting off of them and replacing them with a natural supplement.

Minimally, your doctor should put you on a medication that does not cause neuropathy.

Studies have also shown that some patients placed on statins have experienced a measurable decrease in cognitive function (mental awareness and judgment) after only six months.

The trouble with using drugs to lower cholesterol is that they are man-made chemicals that are an unnatural and alien substance in the body.

Besides diet, t here are natual supplements that will lower cholesterol without side effects. McVitamins.com recommends the RHP Cholesterol Support Formula

Butter or Margarine, which is better?

Use butter in your recipes rather than margarine

Here's the reason why. Organic butter is in no way harmful to your body. In fact, it is one of the best sources of Vitamin A and is just as important for your immune system as Vitamin C. Butter also contains lecithin, which is the antagonist for cholesterol. Lecithin helps dissolve cholesterol so by avoiding butter you avoid the antidote (lecithin), the very thing that will keep your cholesterol in a normal range.

Margarine, on the other hand, is made from cheap corn, cottonseed and soy oils. The oils are heated to very high temperatures, which destroy any nutritional value and the oils are also hydrogenated (added hydrogens to make a liquid into a solid). What is left is a gray colored, artificial plastic, which doesn't smell good and then it has to be bleached to remove color and smell. Lastly, food coloring and artificial flavoring are added.

Contrary to popular advertising, butter is the healthy choice so use it in your recipes.

Do you Feel Dizzy When Standing?

Do you feel dizzy when you stand up? This could be a symptoms of adrenal fatigure.

One of the most common symptoms of adrenal fatigue is dizziness when standing. Normally your body should quickly adapt to a change in position. However, if your adrenals are tired, this adaptation is delayed causing a lack of blood in your brain.
