Drug Side Effects: Are they Minor?

We have all heard of the "possible side effects" of medications. Usually if I bring it up I get a standard "but drugs save lives". I feel that you can always find an safe alternative that builds health, but people still take drugs and feel that they should.

The article below talks about the "minor side effects" and should be read by anyone who wants to take a drug. Actually, they should also read about the drug they want to take on www.drugs.com. It has the pharmaceutical companies literature and you can make an informed decision.

What Happens when Minor Drug Side Effects Turn Deadly? What is a Minor Drug Side Effect?

Hidden Environmental Stresses

Get rid of stress and help your adrenals.

There are so many things in your environment that triggers stress such as TV.

If you watch the news over a period of time your mind starts to fixated on fear. The worst thing you can do is watch the news before bed.

You have to personally select what is in your environment and in your space and not allow everything to come through so that you won’t get all these triggers.

There are tons of things that are affecting your adrenals and you may not be aware of it.

The stress is in the past with memories and past pictures that have pain. We want to put your more into the future – more in imagination or day dream of how beautiful your future will be for you.

I’m not talking about fear of the future because that is still rooted to your past. Being in the future is a complete blank slate, you’re not there yet. It is a very healthy place to be.

Being in the present is therapeutic. Me and my wife play with legos or color instead of watching TV because it forces us to be in the present through activity.

Anything you can do to create rather it is:

  • Music

  • Writing

  • Walking

These things are very healthy and will help you stay present. In the present, there is no scary anything.

Start changing your environment the way you want it to help your adrenals.

The Problem with Herbs and Neuropathy

There are a number of products on the market for Neuropathy. While some of them have some or even most of the B vitamins necessary for the body to be able to build healthy nerves, they also include different herbs, supposedly to help with nerve repair or to relieve the symptoms.

While many of them can relax the body, or give some relief, herbs do not repair nerves, nor do they build healthy nerves.

Herbs are not vitamins. They are natural substances that grow in nature, but they aren't the vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids & amino acids that the body needs to function and to repair itself.

Herbs are similar to drugs in so far as (in therapeutic dosages as found in the herbs that you can buy) they make the body do what it wouldn't normally do. Repairing itself and building new cells a normal function of the body.

Herbs cannot be taken in some cases with certain medications. You need to check with your pharmacist to see if the herbs and your medications are compatible.  Pharmacists have a database that they can check.

There are no clinical trials showing that any herb can help repair the nerve damage that is neuropathy. Nor can it build healthy nerves. They do have some value in increasing blood flow, or calming the body, but not in the actual repair of the nerve which is what causes the neuropathy symptoms.

There are many products being advertised as helping neuropathy with 4 or 5 different herbs extracts in them. It is questionable whether they have been tested together, and since there are no trials regarding neuropathy, questionable as to whether they will help or not.

A number of herbs taken together often cause stomach problems, such as heart burn.  They can create more problems.

Check out all the herbs in a formula. Remember, this is not like an herb tea, made by boiling the herb leaves, or sprinkled in your salad. These are herb extracts in much more potent amounts then found in nature.

How Niacin Lowers Cholesterol

It has been known for years that increased levels of niacin in the blood stream is a very effective way of reducing cholesterol levels without the need of additional drugs. Numerous medical and university studies have shown that niacin lowers overall cholesterol levels.

These studies show that niacin reduces the bad cholesterol (LDL) by 10-20%, reduces triglycerides (fat in the blood) by 20-50% and raises the good cholesterol (HDL) by 15 to 35%.

Niacin accomplishes these changes naturally in the following ways:

1)   It reduces the breakdown of fat from fat cells which is the source of raw material used by the liver to create excess triglyceriedes.

2)      It inhibits the liver from converting sugar to triglycerides.

3)      It inhibits the liver from creating the building blocks of the bad cholesterol (VLDL) and thus as a result the bad cholesterol drops naturally.

4)      Virtually every study done on niacin has shown it to increase good cholesterol and which then picks up the excess bad cholesterol in your blood and takes it back to your liver for disposal.   The higher the good cholesterol, the less bad cholesterol you’ll have in your blood.

In a study called the “Coronary Drug Project” which ran for 6 years and included 3908 patients to study the effects of niacin besides lowering both triglycerides and cholesterol levels there were other astonishing results:

The study found that the use of niacin led to a 14% reduction in non fatal heart attack, a 26% reduction in damage to blood vessels in the brain (stroke or blockage) and a 47% reduction in the need for coronary artery bypass surgery.

Unfortunately, the use of niacin to bring down cholesterol levels never became popular due to the high amounts of niacin needed, which created side effects due to “niacin flush”. (Niacin cannot be confused with niacinaide or nictoinamide which does not cause flushing and does not lower cholesterol levels).

Nerve Damage - Why R-Alpha Lipoic and Acetyl L-Carnitine

If you have nerve damage, R-Alpha lipoic acid and acetyl L-carnitine are two key supplements that you should add to your daily routine.

Evidence indicates that alpha lipoic acid has an ability to kill free-radicals which may help provide added nutritional support to people who have nerve damage in the arms and legs, such as:

- pain
- burning
- itching
- tingling
- numbness

Alpha lipioc acid comes in two forms. R and S. Alpha lipoic acid is a combination of these two forms. Most supplements have alpha lipoic acid with both forms, not just the R form.

The R form of alpha lipoic acid is the form normally found in the body. Studies indicate the R-alpha lipoic acid form appears to be better absorbed than the combination of R and S alpha lipoic acid.

Additionally, some small preliminary studies suggest acetyl L-carnitine may help provide nutritional support to people with pain and who want to improve feeling in affected nerves. It is also possible that acetyl L-carnitine can help nerves regenerate.

The Nerve & Energy Booster is a nutritional supplement which contains acetyl L-carnitine and R-alpha lipoic acid (the better, more absorbable form of R-alpha lipoic acid).
