Two-Thirds of Appendectomies May Be Unnecessary

You've probably heard that your appendix is a useless organ, an artifact from our ancient past when early humans had to digest tree bark and other fibrous materials. However, modern medical science has again proven your body does not contain superfluous organs that serve no useful function.

  • Appendectomy is the most common emergency surgery performed in the U.S. Many doctors will even suggest prophylactic removal of the appendix when you’re having some other abdominal surgery done
  • With the help of white blood cells known as innate lymphoid cells, the appendix acts as a reservoir for beneficial bacteria
  • Once your body has successfully fought and rid itself of a gut infection, the bacteria emerge from the biofilm of the appendix to recolonize your intestines
  • Recent research suggests nearly two-thirds of patients with appendicitis can be successfully treated with antibiotics alone
  • n an earlier study, only two of 77 participants who received antibiotics ended up requiring surgery within 24 hours, and only one-third of participants needed an appendectomy after being discharged, due to lack of improvement

Low Carb Holiday Recipes - Don't feel Deprived


We want to give you some holiday recipes that are low carb. Do you know that carbohydrates burn up B1 in your body? Not something you want to do if you have neuropathy and are looking to build healthy nerves.


Low carb is also recommended for a diabetic diet and on the ketogenic diet (eat for your health)

HOLIDAY RECIPES

Stuffing, Gravy, Mashed Potatos, and Pumpkin Desert

 

Holiday Stuffing Recipe

Ingredients:
9 ounces crushed pork rinds
2 eggs, raw
2 eggs, hard-boiled and coarsely chopped
1 medium onion, chopped
2 stalks celery, diced
1 tablespoons poultry seasoning
Black pepper to taste
1-2 cups chicken broth, with chicken fat not removed or melt a stick of butter into the broth

Instructions:

Sauté onions and celery in some chicken fat until clear. Set aside in a large bowl. Combine the Pork Rinks, poultry seasoning and black pepper, Mix well.

Start adding chicken stock until it is moistened, but not soggy. This should be the consistency of raw cake batter. Add more chicken broth if needed.

When Dressing is at the right consistency, fold in the chopped eggs and pour into a 9 x 13” greased baking pan and bake at 350° F for approx. 45 minutes.

Watch out for browning. Dressing is done when you touch the center and it springs back lightly like a cake. Don’t let it get too brown or it will be dry.

 

Giblet Gravy Recipe

Ingredients:
Giblets and turkey neck
1 stalk celery with leaves, chopped
2 bay leaves
1/2 small onion, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Instructions:

Separate liver from giblets and refrigerate in Ziploc bag. Put remaining giblets and turkey neck in large saucepan and cover with 6 cups water. Add veggies and spices.

Bring to a boil then reduce heat and simmer covered for 2 1/2 hours.

Add liver and cook 15 minutes more.

Remove giblets from liquid. Remove bay leaves, then liquefy in blender with veggies.

Chop giblets and add to liquid. Heat and add additional

Salt and pepper to taste.

Serve as a thin “au jus” over turkey and dressing, or continue to cook uncovered to reduce the volume down further.

About 10 carbs in the entire recipe.

 

Mashed "Potatoe" Recipe

Ingredients:
8 Cups cauliflower florets or a small head of cauliflower
1/4 cup ranch dressing
1 green onion thinly sliced

Instructions:

Bring water to boil in large sauce pan.

Add Cauliflower, cook 15 minutes or until cauliflower is very tender.

Drain cauliflower, add dressing and mash until cauliflower is light and fluffy. Sprinkle with onions. Serve.

Makes 8 1/2 cups servings has 6g of Carbohydrates

 

Pumpkin Desert Recipe

Ingredients:
1 cup whole milk ricotta
2 packets Stevia
1/2 tablespoon pumpkin spice
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Whipped cream

Instructions:

Mix it together with a spoon. Make whipped cream topping.

1/2 cup servings =5 carbs
