This Fat Helps Reduce Anxiety and Inflammation

New research shows that healthy young people who consumed more omega-3 fats showed a marked reduction both in inflammation and, somewhat surprisingly, also in anxiety.

Artificial Sweeteners and Weight Gain

Do you drink diet sodas? Are you drinking or eating foods that contain saccharin, aspartame, sucralose, neotame and acesulfame potassium?

A Purdue University study released Sunday reported that rats on diets containing the artificial sweetener saccharin gained more weight than rats given sugary food, casting doubt on the benefits of low-calorie sweeteners.

In the Purdue study, the rats whose diets contained artificial sweeteners appeared to experience a physiological connection between sweet tastes and calories, which drove them to overeat.

Dr. Marie Savard, an ABC News medical contributor, said another recent study, which included more than 18,000 people, found healthy adults who consumed at least one diet drink a day would have a higher chance for weight gain.

Dr. Savard stated, "We have to rethink what this artificial stuff does to us. The truth is, if you're consuming a drink or more a day, you know it. You know that you're taking it, and you really have to think about eliminating it."

Dr. Savard also went on to state, "You're probably the very person who needs to change those health behaviors to prevent diabetes, heart disease and stroke."

Sodas contain no nutritional value at all for your body. It's basically sugar water whether it's diet soda or regular soda.

Diet sodas that are the second most popular low-calorie, no-sugar products in the nation. They affect the human body negatively and will not benefit it or your health at all.

A safe and effective alternative is Stevia.

Stevia is a sweetener that comes from a plant. It's not artificial. I would recommend using this if you want to sweeten ice tea or your coffee.

Ginger can help reduce side-effects of chemotherapy: doctors

Doctors at AIIMS are now working upon an herbal way to help cancer patients cope with the side-effects of chemotherapy.

Oncologists at the hospital here have been experimenting with ginger root powder in order to reduce the severity of the chemotherapy induced nausea vomiting (CINV).

Toxicity vs. Maintenance

Do you think your physical self is in perfect working order? Do you think it is possible to achieve this state or close to it? If you could achieve perfect physical health or close to it, how might this benefit you?

Right now your health is probably somewhere between highly toxic and only needing maintenance care. Everyone has different stresses and every stress affects your body in unique ways.

What is toxicitiy? Anything your body cannot completely metabolize is toxicity.

Metabolize means all the biochemical steps that result in rebuilt body parts as well as all the biochemical steps that result in energy to move the body. Furthermore, metabolism is all the steps of breaking down old body cells and tissues and eliminating them out of the body or recycling the biochemical parts.

That is a big definition. Actually, considering the quadrillions of changes that occur every minute at the biochemical level that results in sophisticated life, it is a pretty concise difinition.

If your boss stressed you out and your muscles tightened up between your shoulder blades then toxicity would be created. Metabolism would not be fully complete until you were feeling fine again.

Poor body posture and subluxations could also cause you stress, preventing complete metabolism. That's right just about anything could have a toxic effect on your body. It's theoretically possible then to lengthen life by getting your health up to a maintenance level where all the toxic stresses, imbalances and deficiencies are maximally reduced and metabolism is maximally occurring. One of the interesting concepts of maintenance is that a person stays corrected by taking certain regular health actions; not waiting until they don't feel good and are stressed. One is then operating in a healthier, happier condition and is better able to handle life. It is part of success.

Believe it or not my best patients who achieve health and stay healthy are also successful in life. What a coincidence or perhaps not.

So again I ask you - If you could achieve perfect physical health or close to it, how might this benefit you?

Fish Oil and Nerve Pain Relief

Nerve pain, also called neuralgia, is pain that follows the pathway of the nerve. It can have many different causes, but often the cause is unknown.

Sometimes a primary external agent or cause at a particular site along the nerve pathway can be identified. Chemicals, inflammation, compression of tissues, tissue damage from accident or surgery and tumors can all cause nerve pain.

One common form of nerve pain causes discomfort in the face and surface of the eye. Other forms of nerve pain are triggered by specific conditions, such as shingles and diabetes.

Neuralgia often develops into a condition called neuropathic pain. When neuralgia becomes chronic, it can cause deterioration of the myelin sheath that surrounds and insulates pain nerves.

Then, just like an electrical circuit with exposed wiring, nerves that shouldn't be communicating directly with each other cross paths and create a feedback loop that perpetuates pain.

Dr. Gorgon Ko describes several case studies of chronic pain in the February 2010 "Clinical Journal of Pain." Five patients with neuropathic pain experienced lasting relief by taking high dosages of EPA and DHA. Dosages of 2,400 to 7,200 mg a day contributed to improvements that were maintained for as long as 19 months.

It then follows that the higher the Omega-3 (EPA & DHA) content of the fish oil, the more it will nutritionally support and help your body to maintain normal nerve function.

* Average fish oil has 300 mg (EPA & DHA) Omega-3s.
* Higher Quality fish oil has 600 mg (EPA & DHA) Omega-3s.
* WSN Cold Water Fish Oil has 1200 mg (EPA & DHA) Omega-3s.

WSN Cold Water Fish Oil gel caps are also "enteric coated" so that they do not dissolve until they pass through the stomach and reach the intestines. That way there are no "fishy burps" or aftertaste.

Not all fish oils are the same. The highest quality fish oil comes from cold water fish, and the best cold water fish oil comes from the deep cold waters off the Norwegian coast. If the label does not state "cold water," it is low quality warm water fish oil.
